UWI student, turned television anchor wannabee, Danielle Edwards, became the latest cast-off from The Anchor, the weekly reality show on CVM-TV. The remaining five contestants will duel to the death this week as they face their most difficult challenge yet.

“Breaking News” is the term used in the media for stories that are “hot off the press”. In print, there is time to write the story and do spell-check, however, if you are an anchor of a radio or television programme, the story is usually thrust into your hand without a chance to do a rehearsal before going on the air.

This is the challenge that faced the five persons who paraded their skills before the judges and the viewers. Each person’s survival is dependent solely on the public vote and in the next episode, one will go to the doghouse.

Next Monday, watch them being driven to a secret location where their ability to think and deliver on the spot will be tested. With only four episodes to go, it’s still anybody’s guess as to who will emerge the winner.
