Veronica Campbell-Brown posts world leading time at Adidas Grand Prix
Veronica Campbell-Brown blazed to a world-leading time to beat American Allyson Felix in the women’s 200m at Saturday’s adidas Grand Prix, the fifth stop in the IAAF Diamond League, in New York.
Campbell-Brown’s time, 21.98 seconds, marked the first time she has beaten Felix outside of the Olympic Games.
Felix was second in 22.02, with another American Brianca Knight third in 22.59.
“I felt a cramp in my lower hamstring, but I am fine,” Campbell-Brown said.
“I think we (Felix and I) both know each others running strategy so I had to keep my focus.”
Felix, running out of real estate said: “I was just trying to run her down.”
Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake was beaten into second place by Trinidad’s Richard Thompson in the men’s 100 metres, while Antiguan Daniel Bailey was third.
