No truth, no reconciliation
Dear Editor,
Serious efforts should be made to tackle crime and violence. I believe that unless the whole truth is told this will be just another “good” effort.
An atmosphere must be created to allow those who want to say what they know, what they did and didn’t do, what they saw and turned a blind eye to, and to ask the victims for forgiveness. There are many angry Jamaicans who have been waiting for the opportunity to say to someone, “I forgive you.”
May God grant us the boldness and wisdom to create a truth commission without it becoming a witch-hunt, as there can be no reconciliation without the truth. I weep for my country.
“Ye shall know the truth…”
