Tigers, Cutters locked in keen battle
Kingston Tigers and St Ann Cutters are locked in a keen tussle for first-innings honours in their rescheduled third-round fixture of the Jamaican Super Cricket League at Sabina Park.
After being sent in to bat yesterday, captain Orville Pennant made a fluent 94 to push the Cutters to a respectable score of 237 all out. The left-hander was positive throughout as he struck 10 fours and four sixes before he was dismissed by Federick Hermitt after facing 122 deliveries.
Before that he had shared in a third wicket stand of 105 with out-of-favour Jamaican batsman Xavier Marshall, who made 44. Middle-order batsman Marlon Pinnock also chipped in with 33.
Hermitt took five for 45 off 14 overs and five balls for Kingston, while Andrew Richardson took three for 39 from 12.
In their reply, the home team consolidated after losing two early wickets to end the day at 100 for two from 37 overs bowled. St Ann’s left-arm unorthodox spinner Andre Dwyer has been the main tormentor, snatching the two wickets to fall.
Brian Latore on 35 not out and Robert Wair unbeaten on 15 will resume today to try and guide the Tigers towards first-innings glory.
The Tigers are in fourth place in the standings on 10 points, while the Cutters are one place behind on nine and an outright victory by either would push them above first place Mancester Lions.
