Shandy Man says… ‘Bun’ a bootleg!
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — Upcoming western Jamaica recording act Shandy Man wants the police to rev up their campaign against vendors selling bootleg CDs.
“I think the police need to do much more to stem this illegal activity which is really depriving artistes of much needed income. It is similar to a gunman holding you up and taking away all your salary and the police just turn a blind eye when you make a report,” Shandy Man fumed.
The Negril-based crooner, whose real name is Anthony Lewis said the music industry is becoming more and more competitive each day. Some artistes, he reasoned, rely solely on royalties from their tunes, as they don’t attract the jobs on the major promotions on the local or international stage.
Presently Shandy Man is a cabaret singer on the North Coast circuit whose career is poised to take-off internationally. Currently one of his many releases, ‘Top Shotta’ is said to be creating waves in Sweden.
Shandy Man, is booked to leave the island shortly for a brief tour of Sweden to capitalise on his marginal success in that European country.
The singer, who has been extremely busy over the past five years recording in the studios, performing on the hotel circuit, weddings and a number of stage shows, has been slowly building a name for himself globally, with US-based Rally Back- produced songs such as ‘Lets Dance’ and ‘Only If You Know” on the Girly Girly riddim.
He claims that ‘Money Grabba’, ‘If You Real’ and ‘Feels Good’, produced by Canadian-based Wild Geese “are all going well on.
Born in Portland, Shandy Man has performed on stage shows such as Portland Splash, Bling Dog Summer Jam, Reggae Fever, Sting 97, the 2004 Prime Minister’s Independence Gala, Beenie Man’s Summer Sizzle, Portland Jerk Festival, Summer Hype and others.
