It will be educational. It will be informative. It will be entertaining. That is what Grennell’s Driving School has promised patrons who attend the second annual Jamaica Driver and Traffic Safety Expo at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on Hope Road, St. Andrew on Saturday June 19 from 10 am to 6 pm.

The expo, sponsored by energy corporation Total and the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), will include activities for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians; as well as special features for children and music lovers.

“This year we have included a Kiddies Village with a number of rides and slides, and the Police Traffic Division and the Jamaica Automobile Association (JAA) will be conducting educational road safety demonstrations for six to 12 year-olds, even as they enjoy the model street furniture,” Alphonso Grennell, Principal of Grennell’s Driving School, explained.

In addition, there will be a special driver challenge and car stereo competition, plus giveaways throughout the day.

“We are going to emphasise defensive driving at this year’s Expo; and demonstrate to patrons how ordinary road users can assist victims at a crash scene; as well as, other useful strategies to reduce road collisions and fatalities,” said Grennell.

Beyond road safety education, however, this year’s Traffic Safety Expo is set to feature a musical extravaganza, to include performances by veteran singer AJ Brown. He will be joined by young songstress Samantha Strachan, who along with sister, Ana Strachan, rose to stardom in 2003 after copping the title Grand Champion Performers at the World Championships of the Performing Arts in Hollywood, California. Acclaimed young violinist, Jessica Yapp will also perform.
