JC Old Boys award businessmen
Jamaica College Old Boys’ Association will on Wednesday award two outstanding past students at the Carlton Alexander Awards ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus.
Chairman of Island Car Rentals Michael Campbell and Carreras Group managing director Michael Bernard are this year’s recipients of the Carlton Alexander Awards by the JC Old Boys Association, for outstanding leadership and achievement in their fields.
The Carlton Alexander Awards were established in 1990 by the College in memory of Alexander’s contribution to the school and the wider society. Dr Carlton Alexander over many years played a leading role in Jamaica’s commerce, industry and export. The awards are presented annually to two old boys who have exemplified leadership, achievement and status in their chosen fields.
Campbell is chairman and managing Director of Island Car Rentals, Jamaica Rental Company and Island Motors. A Director of Ciboney (Hotel) Group, he is also vice president of Jamaica Rent-A-Car Association, council member of Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and a director of Port Royal Development Company. An accomplished realtor and one of Jamaica’s well-respected entrepreneurs, he has served as a council member of Private Sector Organization of Jamaica. A noted sportsman of his time, he represented his alma mater, in swimming and football.
Michael Bernard is a Board member of both Salada Foods and Jamaica College and was the general manager of the Jamaica Biscuit Company (1991-1995) before moving on to become the managing director of Cigarette Company of Jamaica and Agricultural Products Of Jamaica (1995-2000). He represented JC in cricket and table tennis and led a Jamaican team to victory in a regional cricket match. He has continued his support in the development of sports and athletics nationally.
The Awards Dinner is in its 20th year. Proceeds from the event will go towards student welfare and sports programme.
