Excelsior retain Basic School Champs
Defending champions Excelsior, with an overall combined team score of 201 points, retained their title at the 2010 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)-sponsored Basic Schools Championships, which ended at the National Stadium last week.
Coached by Albert Myles for the second consecutive year, Excelsior also won both the girls and boys sections.
Finishing second to the champions were Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR with 132 points, followed by St Francis Infant (100), Elim Early Childhood Centre (91), Silverstone Basic (81), Harvest Temple (76), and Covenant Christian Academy with 75 points, being the top schools.
Excelsior won the girls’ section with 86 points ahead of Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR on 64, and Elim Early Childhood with 63 points, while Excelsior emerged champions of the boys’ section with 115 points ahead of Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR on 68 and Covenant Christian Academy with 60 points.
Meanwhile, the Class One Girls 80-metre dash final was won by Kashima Brown of Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR in a time of 13.81 seconds with the Class One Boys 80-metre dash final being won by Damay Whitehorne of St Francis Infant in a time of 12.97 seconds.
Ma-Avian Williams of Alvernia Prep won the Class Two 60m dash final in 10.29 seconds with the Class Two boys 60m final being won by Deandre Plummer of Ascot in a time of 10.34 seconds.
Kristian Watson of Silverstone was the winner of the Class Three girls 30m final in a time of 6.35 seconds, while Tristen Watson of Silverstone won the Class Three boys 30m final in 5.75 seconds.
Shanika Plummer of St Francis captured the Girls 50m Open Final in a time of 9.82 seconds, with the Boys 50m Hurdle Open final being won by Kyle-Anthony Grant of Excelsior in 9.10 seconds.
Excelsior were very dominant in the relays, winning four gold medals as they sealed the Championship by winning the last two events, the Girls and Boys 4x100m Open in 1:08.22 seconds, winning by wide margins.
The other two relays won by Excelsior were the Class One Girls 4x50m relay in a time of 34.00 seconds, and the boys 4x50m relay in 34.00 seconds.
Meanwhile, Llayce Gray captured the Class Two Girls 4x50m relay in a time of 38.12 seconds, while the Class Two Boys 4x50m relay was won by Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR in time of 37.10 seconds.
Silverstone were the winners of the Class Three Girls 4x50m relay in time of 43.45 seconds with Silverstone capturing the Class Three Boys 4x50m relay in a time of 41.97 seconds.
Shakara Mittoo of St Francis was the winner of the girls standing jump with a distance of 1.64 metres, while Matthew Chambers of Kid’s Choice Early Childhood won the boys standing jump with 1.57 metres.
The Class One girls obstacle race was won by Pavanna Jeffrey of Elim Early Childhood in a time of 12.57 seconds with the Class One boys obstacle race being won by Kyle-Anthony Grant of Excelsior in a time of 11.52 seconds.
