Saints thrash Tigers by 10 wickets in Super Cricket League
St Catherine Saints completely dominated the Kingston Tigers in the fifth round of the Jamaican Super Cricket League to snatch a 10-wicket victory in their encounter at Chedwin Park yesterday.
Resuming on their overnight 149 for two after dismissing the visitors for 187 on Saturday, St Catherine proceeded to pile up 318 for five declared.
Yesterday, Danza Hyatt pushed on from his undefeated 102, before being dismissed for 139 off 141 balls. Both he and opener Junior Stewart (61) added 211 for the third wicket as Kingston’s bowlers were clouted to all sections of the ground.
Captain Tamar Lambert and allrounder Shacoya Thomas then belted an unbeaten sixth wicket partnership of 101 before the declaration was made.
Lambert was 60 not out from 49 balls, while Thomas was undefeated on 40 from 27 balls. Paul Harrison took two for 54 from 15 overs, while Andrew Richardson took one for 55 from 11 overs for Kingston.
At their second turn at the crease the Tigers were dismantled for 166, as Odean Brown followed up his first innings five-wicket haul with 4-40 from 20 overs to finish with nine for 69 in the match. Offpinner Bevon Brown picked up three for 61 off 20 overs and a ball.
Openers Hyatt and Damian Bryce then raced to 39 without loss from four overs to complete the win and send St Catherine up to third place on 15 points.
Kingston received a further blow when they were deducted a total of seven points by the Jamaica Cricket Association for using an ineligible player in the first two rounds of the competition. They are now in seventh place on six points.
Melbourne Kangaroos moved to the top of the standings on 17 points after beating St Elizabeth Warriors by nine wickets at ALPART.
Carlton Baugh Jnr and Marlon Samuels struck even fifties as Melbourne made 216 in reply to the Warriors 81 all out on Saturday. Chris Dyer and Howard Powell took three wickets each for the Warriors.
Batting a second time St Elizabeth were dismissed for 153 as legspinner Damion Jacobs took six for 57. The visitors then scored 22 for the loss of one wicket to complete their second outright win of the competition.
Westmoreland Wizards recorded their first outright win after a 10-wicket rout of Trelawny Buccaneers at Little London.
After the Wizards declared on 287 for six, the Trelawny team managed just 172 all out to follow up on their first innings score of 133 as Myron Wilson took six for 53. The home team then sped to 30 without loss.
Second-placed Manchester Lions (16 points) took first innings points from St Ann Cutters at the Port Rhoades Sports Club despite Xavier Marshall’s 96 for the home team. St Ann could only muster 200 in reply to the Lions’ 273 from day one. Donovan Sinclair took three for 46 for Manchester.
Batting a second time Manchester reached 91 for three when play ended.
