Flexxing with: Cherine Anderson
Recently TEENage flexxed with the originator of Dancehall-Soul Cherine, who is fresh from her USA tour, opening for John Mayer.
Although definitely pleased with her accomplishments and opportunities to date, the East Kingston born songbird was humble when asked about them and stated “I have had the best of both worlds. I know what it’s like to grow poor but to move up.”
She continued, explaining that her music stems from the passion of music in the church, and is meant to light you up as music in the church did for her.
Fusing dancehall, R&B and soul, Cherine has travelled to places as far as Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Japan and Saskatoon, Canada. Now with a band of Dancehall-SOULdiers behind her and her powerful lyrics, the natural beauty made it known that her music is a movement where street meets sweep. But the music doesn’t stop there she says.

She explained that she would love to tour Alaska, Israel, South Africa, Ghana, Ethopia and India to keep the music going. With a degree in screenwriting, she has not only made her mark behind the mic, but also self-directed two of her videos ‘Shine on Jamaica’ and ‘Kingston State of Mind.’
Currently working on her not- yet-titled debut album, which is set to hit streets later this year, Cherine told TEENage that this album is expected to tell people exactly who she is, where she’s from and definitely will show where she’s going.
“It’s a fusion of different sides of me and is surely going to be great music to please each and every fan.” After hitting the billboard charts with ‘Say Hey’ featuring Michael Franti and being featured in the movies Valentine’s Day and Knocked Up, Cherine was blessed with given the opportunity to travel even further with her music.
She made appearances on the Ellen Show, Craig Fergusons show and was even featured on the EA 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Music Soundtrack which is the soundtrack that accompanies the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games.
When asked about her other passions, her contagious eye-catching smile beamed as she mentioned therapy cooking and acting (especially Bollywood films, which she would love to be a part of).
She ended our flexx telling TEENs “Don’t waste your time and emotions on things that you don’t want, stay focus. All you’ll ever need in life to be amazing, successful and great looks back at you every time you look in the mirror. You are great. You are strong. You are powerful. It starts with you.”
