Green Pond High scores big in Festival
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The five- year- old Green Pond High School is celebrating their outstanding achievement at the parish finals of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) festival competition.
During the competition held last month, the school copped nine gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the categories of Music, Traditional Dance and Drama.
” This year is certainly one of our best years in the festival competition,” said Stacey Harvey, one of the teachers who helped to prepare the students for the competition.
In the Traditional Dance category the group won two gold medals for their Camp and Contra Style in Quadrille while Leonie Lynch was awarded a gold in the music category.
The silver was awarded to the choir for their revival medley. Four bronze medals were also given to the choir.
In the area of speech Davian Miller and Janel McFarlane received silver medals for their individual pieces.
The drama group entered the play ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ and was awarded with the highest score for the day.
Davian who played the role of “Zembe” was awarded a gold medal for her acting skills.
The other awards received were gold for acting, directing, original script, design, overall performance and technical management.
