Praise and worship roll call at Freedom Fest
Dubbed Freedom Fest, the event lived up to its name in every way as patrons threw inhibition out the door and worshipped unrestrainedly on Sunday, June 27 at The Quarry in May Pen. Clapping, dancing, jumping, stomping and shouting they gave the highest praise to the Creator, spurred on by the performers who stuck to one underlying theme — glorifying the name of Jesus.
New Generation Band from out of Montego Bay set the tone for the night with some lively praise and worship songs followed by Claudius England and Ryan Berry, who kept the worship vibes flowing.
Joan Flemmings could do no wrong for her many fans as they sang along hands lifted to Thank You Lord. It was definitely crazy praise time when she launched into her hit song All Christian People. Things got more heated when the experienced gospel performer did her closing song When The Devil Say No.
Weeping Prophet and Murphy made way for Trinidadian gospel artiste Sherwin Gardner who was in fine form. Jamaicans embraced his music as if he were their own, singing along to songs such as Closer and Hotter Red Afire. Gardner kept the praise chant flowing throughout his highly charged performance.
Sandra Brooks was next and she started off with a powerful rendition of His Eyes Is On The Sparrow. There was a feeling of let down though, where her performance was concerned. Known for popular numbers such as Roll Away, The Answer and Don’t Worry, Brooks shied away from singing any of her tunes and instead opted to do choruses and Grace Thriller’s Can’t Even Walk.
Junior Tucker was next with What Kind of Love Is This. It was ministry at its best as he soulfully sang the words of Healing Me. The song had patrons lifting hands to the sky as they sang along, allowing the words to permeate their being.
Following a highly charged performance from Shepherd, Jason Mighty took the stage. He was totally in charge with songs such as God Alone Wi Praise and Davinchi Code. It was non stop dancing when DJ Nicholas hit the stage with Back To The Owner and Holy Ghost Gym.
Prodigal Son, the final performer for the night could do no wrong for his many fans in May Pen. He led them through songs such as Head Cyaan Hot Suh, God Ragga Ragga and Just God, which saw him getting down on his knees.
Patrons were caught up in the number as the song expressed thanks to God for bringing him through some of the hardest times in his life. Many could relate to the sentiments expressed in the song and they too sang along with hands outstretched to the heavens.
Emcees for the evening were Nadine Blair and Basilia Barnaby.
