Motorist seeks refund for F150 fan belt
Dear Claudienne,
On April 14 I bought a fan belt for $8,100 for my Ford truck at an auto parts store. It was the wrong size, so it did not fit my Ford 150 truck. I returned it the following day and the store promised to source it for me here in Jamaica as they had no fan belt that fitted my truck.
I waited one week then went back to the store but they still did not have it. They asked me to wait two more days but at the end of that time when I called them they still could not find it. I told them that I would try to get it overseas and requested a refund. I was told to come for the refund on Wednesday April 28, but then they called me and asked me to give them a few more days.
Despite several promises up to now (June 8) my money has not been refunded.
Please see what you can do to assist me.

Dear GR
We spoke with the proprietor of the auto parts store. He told Tell Claudienne that you asked for a fan belt for an eight-cylinder Ford truck when you should have requested a fan belt for a six-cylinder truck. The propreitor said that he decided to give you a credit note and you agreed to accept it, then later phoned him and requested a cash refund. We note that he refunded you the cash on Thursday July 1.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
My studio apartment in Kingston 8 was unoccupied for one year before I decided to rent it. I rented it on May 17, but was then informed by my tenant that the Jamaica Public Service required it to be re-certified in order for her to get electricity.
The electrician submitted the documents to the government’s Electricity Inspectorate for recertification on May 17, but up to now the inspector has not inspected the apartment.
I visited the Inspectorate on Tuesday June 14 and gave the receptionist the name of the electrician and his phone number. He checked the list and said that “maybe the inspection would happen this week.”
The electrician visited the Inspectorate on Thursday (June 24) but at that time the apartment was not on the list for inspection.
I have been told that there are only four inspectors for five parishes.
I am extremely frustrated. Please assist.
EM
Dear EM
The Electricity Inspectorate advised Tell Claudienne that the inspector went to your apartment last week Friday (June 25) to do the inspection but left because nobody was there. The Inspectorate spokesman said that it was carried forward and the inspection would be done on Friday (July 2). She said that practising electricians have been told that after they submit a job for inspection they should follow up to find out when the inspection would be done.
Good luck.
