McGregor, Sibbles for Merritone Family Day in Connecticut
Grammy nominated reggae crooner Freddy McGregor, who in 2003 was awarded the Order of Distinction (OD) by the Jamaican government for his outstanding contribution to the island’s popular music, is slated to perform alongside veteran reggae singer Leroy ‘Heptones’ Sibbles at the 13th annual Merritone Family Funday on Sunday, July 11, at Lake Quassy, Connecticut.
According to Conroy Allison founder and CEO of the event, “We are extremely excited to have these two legends perform at the annual family fun day this year. I am confident Freddy and Leroy, with their track record of great performances over the years will both deliver memorable sets.”
Known globally for soulful reggae ballads, McGregor launched his solo career with his hit single Big Ship which broke into the top ten of the reggae charts in England and Jamaica. Since then he has amassed an impressive catalogue of hits including Push Come To Shove, Africa Here I Come, I Was Born A Winner and others.
Leroy ‘Heptones’ Sibbles made his mark on the international reggae scene with hit singles Get in the Groove, Ting a Ling, Fattie Fattie, Party Time, and Sweet Talking. The veteran singer who is enjoying resurgence with his current chart hit Harry Hippie, was lead singer of the one of the most influential groups of the rock steady era — the Heptones.
This year’s Merritone Family Funday renewal will again feature the Royal Caribbean Bakery Patty Eating Contest, Western Union Kiddies Dance Contest, Karaoke, 25 different rides for children and the Tri-State Knockout Domino Competition. A ‘Caribbean Family of the Year’ will again be honored and there will be non-stop music from Merritone featuring Winston Blake, with special sets by DJ Roy, Desu and Tony from TC connection.
