‘Government’ cut down by cops
RICARDO Wynter, also called ‘Government’ leader of the feared Stinger gang which operates mainly on Maxfield Avenue was fatally shot this morning after he engaged the police in a gun fight at Hellshire, St Catherine.
Investigators from the St Andrew South Police Division are also reporting that three other members of the Stinger gang were yesterday arrested. According to the investigators these three persons are part of the main leadership structure of the gang.
Wynter, who was listed by the police as a major person of interest following the May 24 operation in Western Kingston and others members of the Stinger gang are responsible for a number of murders in and around Maxfield Avenue. He did not turn himself in to the police.
Wynter was a close associate of former Tivoli Gardens strongman, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke and regularly visited a section of Tivoli Gardens known as ‘Java’.
Wynter was wanted by the police for various crimes including several murders committed on May 24, 2010 on Whitfield Ave when Wynter and his cronies ordered residents of the area to block roads in support of criminals in Tivoli Gardens and they refused.
Police also said Wynter and his cronies were responsible for searching cellular phones of residents from Maxfield Avenue as they hunted for ‘police informers’.
The Stinger gang is based in the Raphael Avenue/Ramsey Road area of the Kingston Western Police Division. Police say the gang is involved in contract killings and drug running.
