Tastee judges hand out Lifeline Cards sparingly
DISPLAYING a keen knowledge of music and entertainment, judges Oral Tracey, Audrey Reid and Amelia ‘Milk’ Sewell are making sure contestants work for their Lifeline Cards. Contestants are finding out that just showing up does not guarantee a Lifeline Card to the next round.
Braving the rain on Saturday last, hopefuls made their way to Island Village, Ocho Rios to take their chance at winning $1 million and instant fame.
Contestant #82 would not take kindly to be turned down and vowed to continue trying until he succeeds.
There was a particular female contestant who “killed” Roberta Flack’s classic Killing Me Softly, not to mention number 9. He was so badly off-key he would not know what to do with a bunch of keys if they were tossed to him.
Following the lunch break there were a number of Garnet Silk sound-alikes, one going as far as claiming he was the late singer’s brother, only for that claim to be blown up when questioned by eagle- eyed Oral Tracey. When asked how his surname differed from that of the late singer, he replied, “We born the same month and in the same parish.”
Standout performances came from singers Yasheka Reid, Dennilee West, Cowayne Nunes, 16-year-old Ramario English, who strummed his guitar and sang Baby Ho and the trio, RM, who gave a polished performance with the Manhattans’ hit, Shining Star. All earned Lifeline Cards and will move on to the next round.
The Tastee Talent Trail’s fourth audition for 2010 will take place on Saturday, July 31, at the Tastee Depot, Barnett Street, Montego Bay.
