Champs Ja tackle T&T in TCL one-dayer
CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — Fresh from securing the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 three-day Challenge, Windward Islands are keen to show their achievement was no fluke and are focusing on doing the double when the limited-overs segment starts here today.
“Right now we are trying to focus on the task ahead. The three-day tournament is now behind us. We are confident we have what it takes to win in this format as well,” manager Shawn Edward told CMC Sports yesterday.
The Windwards will be up against Barbados in the first round at the Dennery Playing Field, a venue where the Barbadians endured a no-decision against Guyana in the three-day series, something which manager Livy Coppin will be hoping to avoid in the limited-overs format.
Guyana and the Leeward Islands will be meeting at the Gros Islet Playing Field for their opening fixture and both teams will be keen to redeem themselves after languishing at the bottom of the three-day standings.
Trinidad and Tobago made a late dash for championship honours with a decisive victory over Guyana in the last round of the competition.
They will be coming up against defending champions Jamaica at the Beauchamp Playing Field in the community of Micoud, south of here. Tournament organisers have shifted all matches in the limited-overs format from the Beausejour Cricket Ground to the Beauchamp Playing Field.
