Truth and reconciliation
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-18: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given us the ministry of reconciliation.” Today in our society there has been a lot of talk regarding “truth and reconciliation”. In fact, it has been offered as a primary solution to our alarming crime rate. We, however, need to take seriously the depth and meaning of these words.
I believe that unless we are first reconciled to our Father God, all other reconciliation efforts will be shortlived and ultimately ineffective. Most of us spend a number of years searching for “the truth”, and unfortunately very often become misled and settle for counterfeits and imitations of the truth! The word of God tells us undisputedly that Jesus Christ is the “Truth”. This leads us to know that all truth originates in Him.
When we know and accept that all truth is found in Jesus Christ and that it is only through Him that we can know the truth, then we can truly have sustainable truth and reconciliation relationships towards each other. We will be free from the deception of the old man of sin and will no longer be bound by our sinful nature; we will indeed become new creatures in Christ Jesus.
It is our Father’s original purpose for mankind to enjoy fellowship with Him, but because of man’s sinful nature we became alienated and unable to relate to our Holy Father. The good news is that God sent His only Son who, through His atonement for our sin, triumphantly accomplished God’s will and gained for us, through our faith and acceptance of Him, the ministry of reconciliation.
Eternal Father, we pray that as a nation we will no longer be blinded and deceived by the enemy, but that our eyes would be opened to the truth in Christ Jesus. We thank you for Your love and mercy toward us by sending Your only Son to us just so that we can become sons of the Most High God, our Eternal Father.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
