Summer Squared
It’s summer and we want to add fun, easy pieces to the wardrobe: cool summer dresses and blouses, cover-ups and more. To spend more time on fun summer activities, we offer a quick and easy way to make these pieces – using squares.
There are several ways to use squares for clothing items:
1. A single square may be used to make a bib top in two styles.
a. Attaching a pair of strings to tie around the neck at one corner and another pair just beneath the armhole section to tie around the back
b. Attaching a pair of strings approximately 8″ apart (or any desired width) to tie around the neck and another pair just beneath the armhole section to tie around the back
2. Two squares may be joined (as shown):
a. Symmetrically, or
b. Asymmetrically
3. Four Squares may be joined to create a dress (also shown).
Steps – Symmetrical Blouse:
1. Finish edges of the squares
2. Join squares:
a. At shoulder, leaving approximately 12″ for neck opening
b. At side – 8″ from shoulder seam.
Steps – Asymmetrical Blouse:
1. Finish edges of the squares
2. Join squares:
a. Along one edge:
i. at one corner,
ii. approximately 15″ from first stitch leaving neck opening
b. Along adjacent side starting 8-10″ from the corner stitch.
1. Add chic by belting this symmetrical dress.
2. This asymmetrical blouse oozes Caribbean elegance.
3. This dress is made from four squares.
