Top teams secure wins in All-Island KO
TOP teams St Catherine CC and Kingston both recorded convincing victories on Saturday in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) All-Island Limited-Overs Knockout competition.
At Eden Park, the St Catherine outfit defeated home team St Mary by eight wickets, thanks to an impressive showing from legspinner Gavin Wallace.
Batting first, St Mary were toppled over for 140, as Anthony Walters and Damian Wilson made 24 each. For St Catherine, who had been short-handed by the absence of four national representatives to the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago, Wallace took four wickets for 14 runs, while Wayne Morgan took three for 46.
St Catherine then raced to 143 for two, thanks to unbeaten knocks by Damion Bryce and Shacoya Thomas, who made 62 and 33, respectively.
At Maxfield Park, Kingston & St Andrew CA were beaten by 167 runs by Kingston in their match-up.
Taking first strike, Kingston racked up 274 all out courtesy of 50 from Andre Bryce and 45 from Fabian Forbes. Winston Walker took four for 26, while Omar Burke snared two for 38 for the home team.
Chasing 275 for victory, Kingston & St Andrew CA were blown away for 107, as Paul Harrison grabbed three for 24 and Simon Jackson took two wickets for no run. For Kingston & St Andrew, only Lorenzo James provided any resistance with 39.
At Elletson Road, Portland charged past Police by 44 runs, while at Jamaica Broilers, Clarendon beat Kensington by four wickets.
In other matches, St Ann defeated St James by five wickets at Jarrett Park, while home team Hanover scorched Trelawny by 125 runs at Elgin Town.
At the ALPART Sports Complex, Westmoreland shocked neighbours St Elizabeth by six wickets to secure their place in the second round.
