CCCU helps reading and saving
ARE you ready for the new school year? Churches Co-operative Credit Union has recently launched its second annual ‘Ready… Set for September Back to School Promotion’ in aid of educating Jamaica’s youths about the importance of saving money from an early age, reading and having good hygiene habits.
Children between ages four-16 years, who are currently attending an educational institution, are encouraged to save between June 7 and August 9, 2010 in the CCCU Youth Savers’ Account. THE three highest savers over the $10,000 threshold will be the winners of the promotion. The prize package will not only include gift certificates from Sangster’s Book Stores (worth approximately $16,000 each) for back to school supplies, but also they have invited Kirk Distributors Ltd to provide a year’s supply of nutritional and hygienic products as additional prizes. The winners will be contacted by Friday, August 13 and will be awarded prizes at a special ceremony on Tuesday, August 17, 2010.
On Saturday, July 24, 2010 Churches Co-operative Credit Union held a book reading at Sangster’s Book Stores in Mall Plaza, from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm.
The book reader called Uncle Andrew greeted the children with encouraging high-fives; he warmed them up a little more by talking about how much fun they are going to have together with reading interesting stories and how wonderful an experience this will be for them!
When the happy group finished reading Little Meeta, they had a short snack time and then they moved on to another fun story titled It’s Not Fair After completing both stories the children were paid a surprise visit by Thrifty Bee — the fun-loving CCCU mascot. The once calm and productive scene broke into noise and complete mayhem as the excited children crowded Thrifty, it was then Uncle Andrew had to break in and regain his crowd and inform them that Thrifty will be back to play later on.
These very bright kids answered some trivia questions concerning: the books that were read, general knowledge questions and they played games including ‘Spin the Wheel’.
