St Elizabeth, St Mary, Portmore top counties in Kingston Wharves U15 cricket
AT the end of the fifth and final round of matches in the preliminary round of the Kingston Wharves Under-15 Cricket Competition St Elizabeth, St Mary and Portmore have been declared the clear winners — Cornwall County, Middlesex County and Surrey County, respectively.
St Elizabeth’s match against St James ended in a no result due to rain that stopped play with the parish needing just five runs to be declared the winner of the match. The match which was played at the Vineyard saw St James making 58-5 in 25 overs, while St Elizabeth were on 54-3 after 17 overs when the rains came.
St Elizabeth ended on 10 points ahead of Westmoreland’s nine points.
Westmoreland in their match against Hanover, completely demolished them, winning by 182 runs having made 206-3. The main run getters were Romaine Morris on 58 not out, Sahid Crooks with 58 and Richardo Barnes with 50.
Hanover were skittled out for a paltry 28 all out in 16 overs. There were six ducks in the innings. Onandi Haughton with 10 top-scored. Richardo Barnes 4-10-6 and 4-12-6 took the most wickets.
St Mary topped the Middlesex County with eight points on a better run rate over St Ann. St Mary defeated St Catherine by one wicket making 105-9 off 31.5 overs. The wickets went to Ralston Chambers 3-25-10 and Shakeem Brown 2-16-10.
St Catherine, who batted first, made 104 all out off 29.5 overs.
Clarendon 22 all out against Manchester had the distinction of making the lowest score in the competition to date. Nicholas King got the highest number of wickets in one match. He took 8-6-6.
Manchester in reply made 23 without loss in three overs with Lamar Malcolm making 17 not out.
The Surrey County went to Portmore, who defeated St Thomas in a low-scoring match. The match at Goodyear Oval which was reduced to 30 overs saw Portmore batting first and making 63 all out in 21 overs. Only Javion McFarlane 10 got into double figures. Darren Dick 4-27-6 and Alex Lawrence 2-7-4.1 were the main wicket takers.
St Thomas could only make 52 all out in 29.5 overs. Amir Dalley 4-2-6, Jameel Bryan 2-11-5.5 and Amed Campbell 2-13-6 took the most wickets.
The other match in the county went to Kingston/St Andrew ‘B’ to take second position in the county. Portland batted first making 71 all out in 23 overs. Shakiel Cooper 27 was the only batsman to get into double figures. Richardo Verley 6-30-3 and Daniel Griffiths 2-15-4 got the most wickets.
Kingston/St Andrew ‘B’ replied with 73-1 off 20 overs. Romain Martin, 29 not out, and Saad Amed, 16, contributed the most runs.
The next set of matches will see the best of the counties joining forces to compete against each other. That round begins next Monday.
