Dover ‘thrills and spills’ as Summerbell reigns
‘King’ David Summerbell Jr reigned at Dover Monday at the Emancipation of Speed meet, winning two races and placing second in the Thundersport clocking the fastest time of the day — 1 minute 19.280 seconds just outside of the track record of 1 minute 18.495 seconds.
Summerbell, who actually started the Thundersport race almost a quarter lap after other competitors took the green flag, turned in a stunning performance igniting the track to end up in second place.
‘King David’ got the better of Doug Gore, Peter Rae, passing him towards the end of the final lap, and Tedroy Burton among others.
Mathew Gore eventually won the Thundersport in his Mitsubishi Evolution 5.
“It was a very exciting and fast race and I was happy to do such a fast time and a very good second place,” said Summerbell humble in success.
“I get all the complement as the driver but is the team that put this all together and I have to commend them…it was great day of racing.”
In a day of ‘thrills and spills’ Summerbell lost his right rear wheel after three laps in the previous (MP3/MP1) race that Gore went on to win.
As it was throughout the day Gore also had mechanical challenges with his improved Mitsubishi Evolution X.
“I lost third gear completely, we changed some parts and it worked for the first three laps and it happened again,” he told Auto.
“We will be back as I have a new gearbox at home to fit in. I know some of our fans are disappointed, I am too, but we will be back,” Gore declared.
In the meantime, Adrian Blake won the three motor cycle races with his fastest lap time of 1 minute 26.098 seconds in his second race.
The first race of the day had three casualties as three cars stopped after running into difficulties, two running off the track and one into the rail. In the final motor cycle race one cyclist spilled at the Total corner and was taken off by the ambulance.
