BSI probing police shooting in Westmoreland
McFIELD, WESTMORELAND — THE Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) has commenced a probe into the fatal shooting by the police of three men from St James’ Anchovy community.
Ricardo ‘Brother’ Murray, an unemployed 26-year-old of Anchovy Meadows; Denardo Bygrave, a 21-year-old baker known as ‘Twain’ and ‘Bigs’, and Dwayne ‘Rudey’ Jones, an unemployed 21-year-old were all pronounced dead at the Savannah-la-Mar hospital after 11:00 pm on Monday following what the police said was a shoot-out.
The police report that based on information they received they signalled a grey Mitsubishi Gallant motor car to stop along the McField main road in Westmoreland.
On approaching the car, the police said, four men alighted and fired at them. The police returned the fire and when the shooting ended three men were found with gunshot wounds. One of them, the police alleged, was clutching a 9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with 10 rounds, another had a shotgun and the third man was found in the backseat of the motor car.
The police were searching for two men whom they said alighted from the car and escaped into nearby bushes.
