BACK TO THE 70’s
Vintage chic is all the rage these days, and we have seen various trends from “back in the day” reappearing. Recently, there has been a resurgence of hair and make-up trends from the 1970s, where the feminist movement inspired natural and minimalist make-up looks. Get the Look shows you how.

For 1970s Daytime Make-up:
Step 1
Begin with clean skin. For your foundation, use a very light formula such as liquid or even a tinted moisturiser. You want your skin tone to appear even and natural.
Step 2
Keep your eyebrows natural. Brush them with a disposable mascara wand and stroke on a brow tamer to keep them neat.
Step 3
Lightly apply clear, dark brown or soft black mascara to your top lashes, depending on your natural colouring. Your goal is to lightly define your eyes, not make them stand out.
Step 4
Line the inside of your lower lashes lines with a white (pencil) eyeliner.
Step 5
Use an oversized blush brush to apply bronzer to your cheekbones and the T-zone of your face (ie, your nose, forehead and chin). Blend away any hard or definite edges with a make-up sponge for a sun-kissed glow. Select your bronzer’s degree of darkness based on your natural colouring — about two notches darker than your skin tone.
Step 6
Apply a nude lip balm (ie the colour of your lips).
For 1970s Evening Make-up:
Step 1
Apply make-up primer to your eyelids.
Step 2
Apply a pearlescent (ie, a shimmery pearl-like hue) medium shade from your lash line to the crease of your eyelids. On your creases and the outer edges of your upper eyelids, apply the darkest shade. On the brow bones and inner corners of eyes, smooth on the lightest. Blend the edges of the colours together to fade away hard lines.
Step 3
Define your eyelashes with the mascara. If you like, you can apply false eyelashes that are long and fine, like an exaggerated version of natural lashes, as opposed to the overly spiky ones in the 1960s.
Step 4
Run a white pencil eyeliner along the inner rims of your lower lashes.
Step 5
Rub a gel blush into the apples of your cheeks. Pick a tone that is an exaggerated version of your natural blush, like a vibrant peach or raspberry stain. Blend well so the colour has no definite edges but you appear flushed, almost as though you have a fever.
Step 6
Apply a glossy lipstick of the same primary tone as your blush. Deep, vibrant jewel tones are tantamount to getting that ’70s disco look. Apply clear gloss on top for higher shine wattage.
