Prezidential comes clicking
DESPITE a certain recent development at the national level that has attracted international attention, upcoming act Prezidential is determined to use the somewhat controversal stage name to propel him into the global music marketplace.
With that determination, the rising singjay born Michael Whyte, has no intention of apologising for his Prezidential moniker.
Staying true to his artistic lineage, the 34-year-old son of Franklyn Whyte, former member of the Uniques and the Techniques, and whose mother is a cousin to the late great Alton Ellis, has responded in a creative way with. “I’m Prezidentially but me nuh roll with di click eeh nuh. Anytime yuh see me, me roll wid me fren dem a flick eeh nuh,” goes the catchy lyrics of the song.
“Yuh dun know, people hear me name and it sometimes cause confusion, yuh nuh… so dem a wonda yuh nuh… so mi a mek dem know sey I nuh have a problem wid di name. Mi just a do me thing, my Prezidential thing. It is mi lifestyle, my Prezidential lifestyle, that’s how me really live. The finest of things,” proudly explained the past student of Mona High whose roots spring from the community of Papine, in the Kingaton 6 area.
Although he is yet to enjoy the prominence that his talent merits, Prezidential can be considered a veteran of sorts. During his early years, he worked on major shows such as Sting as well as Hot Shot 92 at the Prison Oval in Spanish Town.
“A lot of experience mi ave under mi belt, but mi just ready to take it into my own now, yuh nuh, me no really under no shadow now… mi born wid ting mon. It inna mi, so mi affi just bring it out. Can’t mek God go vex with me… him gimme mi talent and mi nuh use it and him go tek it back. So full force,” was the Prezidential’s promise.
“Well, right now me just come fi uplift de youth dem inna me songs,” he added. “With fun song. Mi nuh too deal wid di violence, mi nuh touch deh so. Me just a spread the message fi see a better Jamaica and a better nation, yuh nuh. Wise up di people dem mek dem focus, deh so mi music deh.”
So what else is in store for this artiste who has the fervour of a sensation in the making. “We a gwaan push out the singles dem now fi dem build a energy out there before the album come forward.
