Seek Double The Honey in today’s feature
Seek and you shall find Double The Honey in the winner’s enclosure after his expected victory in the $786,000 Seek Exercise Book Trophy feature over 1,200 metres at Caymanas Park today, which is set to run off at 5:25 pm.
But his arch-rival Ron Ron may not allow that as the principal feature is expected to be a close affair between two outstanding three-year-old imports. First post at 1:10 pm.
The Book Empire enhances a competitive 10-race card by staging the fourth Seek Exercise Book back-to-school give-away raceday, which also includes the $845,000 Keeling Cup Restricted Allowance 1 secondary feature for native-bred two-year-olds over 1,100 metres.
The other eight races on the card will endorse brand names of some of the company’s leading products along with a Seek Employees Trophy call for Overnight Allowance three-year-olds and upward over 1,100 metres.
However, the principal event which the programme provides is the sumptuous clash between Double The Honey and Ron Ron. This is one of the most eagerly awaited clashes on the local racing calendar between two fabulously precocious foreign-bred three-year-olds before what is expected to be a bumper crowd with entrances to the Grandstand and the ground floor of the Club Stand thrown wide open to the public free of cost.
The biggest hurdle in the clash naturally rests with Ron Ron, as she has to overcome a two-race deficit which Double The Honey holds over her with victories as two-year-olds and another a year older. Double The Honey’s big resolve, no doubt, is to maintain this dominance, which could bring out the best in both as they have enviable records.
Double The Honey, by Double Honor out of Ahoneyofabunny (Northern Prospect) bred by Manuel Anrade in the USA and owned by Edison Chai, is undefeated in five career starts. Ron Ron, a bay filly by Lion Heart out of Technical Analysis (Grindstone) and also bred in the USA by Yoshio Fujita, is owned by Kenval Wallace and has a race record of five wins and two defeats from seven career starts.
Since they last met in April over today’s distance of 1,200 metres, Double The Honey, conditioned by champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta, has only ran twice, while Ron Ron has won her next four races, conquering all and sundry with some fabulous times.
The manner with which the Gary Subratie-conditioned Ron Ron dismissed her opponents in her last races raise the likelihood of a reversal of earlier times against Double The Honey in today’s encounter and the trainer seemed confident that his charge was ready to reverse the placing whenever they met again.
Of Ron Ron’s two defeats by Double The Honey, one was over today’s distance in a time of 1:11.1 when she finished two lengths adrift carrying 53.0kg to Double The Honey’s 57.0kg. She returned four months later to even the time of 1:11.1 in Open Allowance company while carrying 49.5kg to show that she too has that sort of time in her legs.
Double The Honey kept in tune with a quickish dash of 58.4 over 1,000 metres to set the stage for a grand third meeting of two promising ‘A’ Class campaigners.
