Gay beats Carter
ZAGREB, Croatia — American sprinter Tyson Gay ran 9.92 seconds this afternoon to win the 100 metres at the Zagreb World Challenge, leaving Jamaican rival Nesta Carter trailing in second in 10.07.
Gay and Carter are tied for the world lead at 9.78 — Gay reached it in London in August and Carter in Rieti last Sunday.
It was a victorious day for Americans in general at the meet this afternoon: Dwight Phillips added another long jump victory with 7.85 metres; Nick Symmonds won the 800 in 1 minute, 45.37 and Justin Gaymon triumphed in the 400 hurdles in 49.19 seconds.
In women’s competition, Lolo Jones claimed victory in the 100 hurdles in 12.87, while 2008 Olympic gold medalist Marshevet Myers won the 200 in 22.94.
