Shontelle for Sunday’s CMS finals
BAJAN songwriter and international pop star Shontelle is reportedly eager to get to Jamaica for her performance at the finals of the Caribbean Model Search on Sunday.
Since her quick rise to stardom, Rihanna’s friend and former back-up singer Shontelle, has only performed in the Caribbean once, and that was in Trinidad. The singer of the T-shirt song and Billboard’s Hot 100 hit single Impossible, acknowledged that Jamaica was the creative and cultural capital of the Caribbean and mentioned some of the collaborations she has done with local stars such as Beenie Man. However, she has never been here and she is really looking forward to performing for a Jamaican audience. She has made it clear that her DJ is one of the best in the business and she intends to do more than just a cameo show. Shontelle says she intends to debut with the live performance of her new smash single Perfect Nightmare right here in Kingston, Jamaica.
She will be in the company of a number of local and international celebrities, including Jamaica’s history making first runner-up to Miss Universe Yendi Phillipps. Yendi will make her first appearance in Jamaica since becoming the first runner-up to Miss Universe last week in Las Vegas, on the CMS runway this Sunday. Also appearing on Sunday’s show will be the up and coming award-winning Jamaican singer Angele Smith, singing a trio of songs including his latest single.
Over 100 finalists will compete for titles in four categories: Fashion Model, Male Face, Full Figure and Petite Fashion Model. It is hoped that these young models will continue the tradition set by Jaunel McKenzie, Lois Samuels, Oraine Barrett, Carla Campbell, Nadine Willis, Nell Robinson, Romae Gordon, Angela Neil, Jeneil Williams and Sedene Blake.
