Teenage Dreams sold some 192,000 copies in its first week at retail. This has given Perry her first number one album. Perry is also the first solo female artiste to score a number one album in America, since Kesha’s Animal soared to the top in January.
Teenage Dream is the two-time Grammy Award nominee’s highest album chart debut. Her debut album, One of the Boys, scanned 46,767 units in its first week, back in 2008.
Katy is nominated for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video in the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards for California Gurls.
o Taio Cruz on top in the UK and America
Singer/songwriter Taio Cruz is enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic. He currently has the number one single on the UK pop chart with Dynamite.
Dynamite is number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on Billboard’s Dance Music Club Play chart.
Late last year, Cruz had topped the Billboard Hot 100 with the track Break Your Heart. However, prior to his success in America, Cruz had been steadily making his name in Britain.
He had built up his repertoire by writing songs for the likes of Will Young, Tinchy Stryder, and Sugar Babes. Cruz also released two solo albums which have fared well on the British album chart.
Dynamite is shaping up to become Cruz’s biggest hit, as it has so far hit number one and top ten in several European countries.
