Newcomers UWI hold Cavalier in Super League
ONLY three of the scheduled six matches were completed on the opening day of the Claro/KSAFA Super League as the incliment weather continue to wreak hovoc on local football leagues yesterday.
Champions Cavalier had to come from behind to hold newcomers UWI to a 2-2 draw; Constant Spring outscored Mountain View 4-3 in a high-scoring match, while Duhaney Park and August Town battled to a 1-1 draw.
At UWI Bowl, a Michael Stone’s 13th-minute own-goal gave the hosts the lead and Donovan Hibbert made it 2-0 six minutes before the break.
However, the champions rallied in the second half with a 74th-minute goal from former Arnett and Tivoli Gardens midfielder Horace Sharpe before Jermaine Grey equalised nine minutes from time.
At the Spring Complex, veteran Oniel McDonald’s brace (25th and 35th) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead. But Ricardo Reid (39th) and Christopher Dunn (45th) levelled the score at the half.
Reid’s second goal of the match on 77 minutes put Mountain View in front, but Sheldon Nelson equalised two minutes later, before Denzil Watsom secured the three points with a goal on the stroke of full time.
At Baldwin Crescent, Fabian Anderson’s 31st-minute goal put visiting August Town ahead against hosts Duhaney Park.
But, inspired by former Waterhouse and Harbour View striker and new club president Jomo Gordon, the home team rallied to earn a point, courtesy of Ricardon Smith’s 49th-minute strike.
