Questions for the NWC
Dear Editor,
Kindly allow me to ask a few questions of the National Water Commission (NWC) in relation to its sewer mains project in the Barbican Road and Paddington area.
Firstly, the sewer works represent a commendable effort to sewer Kingston and thus reduce pollution to groundwater and our environment, whilst collecting tariff. However, even the blind can see that the material used in the road restoration in a number of instances was sub-standard or not properly applied.
Can the NWC report on the quality of the material and the compaction in the trenches?
Can the NWC report on the level of effort of its supervision of the contractors?
Was a forensic assessment made of the failure of the works? If so, publish it.
Who is going to ultimately pay for the damage?
These works were not conducted by or under the supervision of an engineer. The proof is at the top of Paddington Terrace (intersection with Liguanea Avenue) where proper practice was followed and where the road is in excellent condition, compared to the remainder of the road at the intersection with East King’s House Road. It’s a disaster.
It’s time to stop insulting the public and to value taxpayers’ money.
I look forward to the NWC’s pubic response on this matter.
