Rusea’s eye Inter-Zone after 10-0 win
LUCEA, Hanover — Rusea’s High moved to within a point of securing their place in the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday after scoring a massive 10-0 in over Maldon in a Zone B game at the Colin Miller Sports Complex.
The prolific Brian Brown score a first-half hat-trick as Rusea’s led 5-0 at the break, Jermaine Woozencroft also scored a hat trick while substitute Junni McDonald scored two as Nicodie Haughton and Ramon Foster got one goal each.
The win pushed Rusea’s to 18 points at the top of Zone B and with Herbert Morrison also winning, beating Hopewell High 3-0, a point on Saturday against Frome Technical would be enough for Rusea’s to advance.
Zone A whipping boys William Knibb scored their first win, blanking Cornwall College 2-0, to avenge a first round loss by the same score line.
St James High were held 0-0 for the second time this season by Muschett High but still leads with 14 points from seven games while Spot Valley High edged Green Pond 2-1.
Leighton Masters and Dimitri Rose scored two goals each as leaders Marcus Garvey High hammered York Castle High 8-0 in Zone C to increase their lead to eight points after second placed Ocho Rios High was edged 1-0 by Cedric Titus.
Garvey Maceo high moved into second place in Zone I after a 2-0 win over Kemps Hill but are seven points behind leaders Glenmuir High who edged Denbigh High 1-0.
Defending champions St Elizabeth Technical beat DeCarteret College 2-0 but still trials Zone F leaders Munro College who tagged Mile Gully High 3-1 and conceded their first goal of the season.
Dwayne Francis scored twice for St Thomas Technical in their 3-2 win over Annotto Bay High to remain on top of Zone D while Jason Walters got two goals as St Mary High beat Brimmervale High 4-1.
The Zone E game between Mannings School and Petersfield was called off after spectators invaded the field after two players were involved in an altercation and the Petersfield goalkeeper was sent off.
The game was tied at 0-0 at the time of the stoppage.
Grange Hill took over the lead after a 4-0 win over Little London High with 14 points, on goal difference over Godfrey Stewart who drew 1-1 with Maud McLeod.
Today Clarendon College will see their sixth consecutive win when they face Lennon High in a Zone H game as eight games are down for contention.
Clarendon College won the first round game 2-1 against Lennon while Vere Technical could move into third place if they beat Claude McKay in the other game today.
Charlemont who lost their perfect record on Tuesday against Old Harbour, will seek to rebound against an improving Dinthill Technical who have won their last two games in Zone J.
Old Harbour are favoured to improve their record to five straight wins when they host Bog Walk.
Manchester High who scored 12 goals on Monday against Alston could go on another scoring spree today when they play away to Cross Keys High who they had beaten 9-0 in the first round.
