Barbican take lead into 2nd leg of Sherwin Williams semis
Champions Barbican will look to cement their place in the Sherwin Williams Women’s League final today, as they take a 3-0 lead into their second-leg semi-final against Portmore Strikers at the Spanish Town Prison Oval starting at 2:00 pm.
In the other semi-final set to begin at 4:00 pm, Waterhouse and Los Perfectos will have all to play for after they played to a 2-2 draw in their first-leg meeting.
Barbican dominated their first-leg match against Portmore Strikers and the Charles Edwards-coached girls are expected to easily formalised their place in the decider.
The St Andrew team got their goals on Wednesday through Janine Dennis, Jodian McGregor and Felicia Lewis, but Edwards believes they should have converted more and strengthened their position for today’s game.
Nonetheless, he is confident that as long as his team doesn’t allow complacency to set in and turn up mentally ready for the encounter, they should get through.
His counterpart Cornel Clarke said his team did not handle the wet conditions well on Wednesday and described it as their worst performance this season.
However, he believes they are still in with a chance, saying it was far from over.
Meanwhile, the other semi-final between the new and young Los Perfectos and the seasoned and experienced Waterhouse remains evenly poised after the newcomers forced the former winners to come from behind twice in the draw.
Both coaches, Xavier Gilbert of Waterhouse and Merron Gordon of Los Perfectos, rued their many missed opportunities on Wednesday.
Both are also aware of how keenly contested this match is going to be and are stressing the need for their players to capitalise on the chances they create this afternoon.
