Synchronised Champs climaxes today at Bournemouth Bath
The three-day Claro Jamaica International Synchronised Swimming Championships ends today with finals in the figures awards, intermediate solo, trio, age-group solo and team competition at Bournemouth Bath in Manley Gardens, East Kingston.
Six teams and 40 swimmersare taking part in an “exciting day of competition”, according to head coach Carrie Reynolds.
She said the figures competition will determine half of the competitors’ scores, while the intermediate solo and the trio will be played to music and provide lots of interest to spectators.
Add to that, she said, would be the age-group and the team competition which are expected bring the house down.
Each competitor is scored between 0 and 10 points by a panel of six or seven judges.
Meet manager Diahann Campbell noted the championship is divided into three age groups, 12 and under, 13-15, and 16-18, with the youngest competitor being seven and the oldest 18 years of age.
Synchronised swimming involves elaborate moves in the water, requiring flexibility, grace, artistry all to musical accompaniment.
The next synchronised championships in Jamaica will be held in October next year.
