Nicole Relief: Universities pledge assistance to all island relief efforts
IN light of the trail of devastation tropical storm Nicole left across Jamaica, students of the University of the West Indies, University of Technology, Mico University College and the Northern Caribbean University, aim to help in the rebuilding of the country.
In association with the Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) as well as private and public sector organisations, the ‘Nicole Relief’ project was launched recently.
The presidents of the various students’ unions pledged their dedication to the collection drive and distribution effort and reiterated the support of ODPEM director, Ronald Jackson.
An appeal was made to corporate Jamaica and the Jamaican populace to donate non-perishable food and toiletries to affected communities by dropping them off at the respective universities.
In keeping with the students’ dedication to the cause, there will be massive drives on all campuses for students and administrative staff, centrally placed collection boxes as well as canned food requirements upon entry at the popular Integration Thursdays.
For those who have suffered and are now living without basic amenities, and they hope to get a little help and solace in their despair, ‘Nicole Relief’ began yesterday and will run from October through to November.
