Two ex-councillors to be buried
DUANVALE, Trelawny — THANKSGIVING services for Clifford Black and Alfred ‘Ronald’ Thomas — two former councillors of Trelawny Parish Council (TPC) — will be held this weekend.
The body of Black, an ex-chairman at the TPC will be laid to rest at the Stewart Town cemetery on Saturday, following a service at the Anglican Church in that community.
Black, who was also the councillor for the Stewart Town Division at different periods from 1947 to 1963, died at the Amy Muchett Home in Duncans last month.
He was 94.
Former Member of Parliament for North Trelawny Desmond Leaky described Black, who represented the People’s National Party (PNP), as “a very jovial and outgoing person”.
“He was a very good representative of the people and the party,” added Leaky, who himself represented the PNP.
Meanwhile, the funeral service for Alfred ‘Ronald’ Thomas, a former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the Sherwood Content Division, will be held on Sunday at the Duanvale Pentecostal Church.
His body will later be interred at the Duanvale cemetery.
Thomas passed away last week Monday, after a long battle with diabetes.
He was 55.
He served as councillor from 1998 to 2003 and chaired several committees at the council during his tenure.
He did not seek re-election in the 2003 local government elections due to ill health.
JLP Deputy General Secretary Senator Dennis Meadows said the late councillor will be remembered for his dedication to the less fortunate; his frankness and his ability to bring people together.”
“He has left an indelible mark by his sincerity of service and commitment to the people he represented,” added Meadows.
