Where will the enquiry money come from?
Dear Editor,
I am furious that after all these months when the prime minister had countless opportunities to come clean on the Christopher Coke/Manatt, Phelps and Phillips affair, despite endless calls from all sectors of society to do so, we will now have to spend millions of dollars to establish a commission of enquiry into the matter. For a country whose fiscal position is in dire straits and faced with a staggering road repair and maintenance post-Nicole bill, how can this be? Where will this money come from?
Mr Prime Minister, you don’t have money to pay the police, the nurses, the teachers and all other public sector groups that are battling for their fair share, yet you are going to find millions for this inquiry, which, with due respect, you brought upon our beloved country. Tell me, please, reassure me, please, that you are indeed going to get “volunteers”, especially from the groups that called for this enquiry, to give of their time and sense of nationalism to undertake the proceedings.
Make no mistake, while I fully support your “coming clean” once and for all, it cannot be that we continue to spend what we don’t have in a vicious and never-ending cycle. God forbid!
