Hyde to take reign of Lion, Bender out
CLARENDON-based Humble Lion FC will have a new coach in Lenworth Hyde Snr after Christopher Bender was sacked yesterday.
Last night Hyde confirmed that he has taken the hot seat of a club that has spent a lot of money in the transfer market, and therefore expectations are high.
“Yes, I have taken the job and will meet with the players tomorrow (Friday),” Hyde said yesterday.
A few weeks ago the Observer broke the story that Bender would be replaced by Hyde after he apparently lost the confidence of club chairman Mike Henry.
Henry, the member of Parliament for Central Clarendon and minister of transport became more vocal in the changing room and it was more a matter of when than if Bender would go.
Humble Lion’s 0-1 lost to St Georges SC on Wednesday was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and Bender was given the boot.
Humble Lion, with their fourth defeat from five games, are rooted to the bottom of the Digicel Premier League with one point.
Hyde is regarded as one of Jamaica’s alltime outstanding footballers and a very successful Premier League coach winning with Hazard (now Portmore United), again with Portmore United, Harbour View and Tivoli Gardens.
