Eltham complete double over KC
Eltham High completed the double over Kingston College (KC) in this season’s ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup football competition following their 1-0 win in Group F at Eltham High yesterday.
Jason Wallace netted the all important goal 25 minutes into the contest.
Eltham with 24 points, now lead the group by seven points ahead of KC and Jonathan Grant tied on 17.
Eltham’s coach Gregory Allen said his team has maintained their discipline and focus from the first round and this has helped them to achieve their results thus far.
“Even though this is a 1-0 margin, the fact is that we collected all three points, I’m happy for it,” he said.
His counterpart Trevor Harris said although the loss was hard to accept, it was not a major set-back.
“This is not really a set-back because we are second in the zone, but we wanted to get rid of this Eltham jinx.
“But we are trying to get back to the top of schoolboy football, so we like the fact that the team is improving and we like the challenge,” he said.
In an evenly contested first half, Wallace’s goal was the only difference between the teams.
He found the net after the KC defence failed to clear their lines during a melee and Stephan Morant got the final touch to set up Wallace, who scored from seven yards.
However, after the break the visitors had the better of play and had good opportunities through Tazia Gilpin, Arsenia Walker and Rashane Garcia.
Still, Eltham had the best chance of the half, but goalkeeper Reynardo Vassell was quick off his line before Morant could pull the trigger inside the area.
In the group’s other games, Jonathan Grant stopped St Catherine 2-1 with goals from Orlando Palmer and Xavian McGaw, while the other game between Tarrant and Hydel ended goalless.
In Group D, St Andrew stopped Meadowbrook 2-1 courtesy of a double from Tevin Ramsey.
Norman Manley defeated Holy Trinity 3-0 and Pembroke Hall turned the tables on Mona for a 2-0 victory.
Norman Manley lead this group with 26 points, three more than St Andrew Technical, who lead Penwood by one point.
In Group B, Tivoli Gardens stopped Ascot through a brace from Ajei Benjamin, Bridgeport beat Dunoon on Odane White’s lone strike, while Jose Marti turned back Vauxhall 4-2.
Bridgeport on 17 points lead by one over Tivoli Gardens. Ascot are third with 10 points.
