Windies poised to overhaul Pakistan in Test rankings
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — West Indies can close in on sixth place in the International Cricket Council Test Championship rankings if they do well on next month’s three-Test tour of Sri Lanka.
In the latest rankings released on Wednesday, West Indies were seventh in the rankings on 79 points, just four points behind Pakistan.
The Caribbean side will travel to Sri Lanka for the start of the series on November 15, and will also play five One-Day Internationals and one Twenty20.
West Indies will face a tough battle, however, as they have lost their last five Tests played on Sri Lankan soil.
The last time the two teams met in 2008 in the Caribbean, they split a two-Test series 1-1.
Pakistan will also have the chance to widen their lead on West Indies when they host South Africa in a two-Test series in the United Arab Emirates starting next month.
India, meanwhile, have gone 11 points clear at the top with their emphatic 2-0 win over Australia in the recent two-Test series.
Australia have slumped to fifth, their lowest ever position since the inception of the rankings system in 2003.
