New Bowens win big at CFA awards
TOLL GATE, Clarendon — Captain’s Bakery Major League champions New Bowens FC were the big winners at the 2009/2010 Clarendon Football Association’s (CFA) awards ceremony, walking away with a total of $279,000 and five out of six awards on Thursday night at the Bridge Palm Hotel and Resort.
New Bowens, who will be campaigning in this season’s South Central Confederation Super League, won awards for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Leading Goalscorer, Top Coach, the midseason title and the league title.
The other big winners on the night were FX Trader Division One champions Spartan FC, who took home the MVP, the Leading Goalscorer and the Top Coach awards. In total, they pocketed some $65,000.
Digicel Premier League outfit Sporting Central Academy collected their trophy for being knockout champions, with Humble Lion placing second.
Meanwhile, a number of individuals were presented with special awards, among them are John Green (for outstanding contribution to the Clarendon FA and the wider South Central Confed), Cardella Samuels (top referee) and Lloyd Reader (top assistant referee).
The Observer and CVM TV were honoured for providing outstanding media coverage throughout the year, while Lennon High School also picked up an award for their continued excellence in schoolgirl football.
