Trelawny teams dominate competition
COOPERS PEN, Trelawny — FALMOUTH-BASED Assassin trumped Deeside Untouchables 300-278 in the finals of the Wray and Nephew sponsored Overproof White Rum Western Jamaica Domino Association Premier League competition in a Trelawny derby played here at Club Cali on Sunday afternoon.
The champions won for themselves the White Rum Western Jamaica Domino Association Premier League trophy.
At the end of the first half, Assassin’s score was 154 and Deeside Untouchables 130.
The finals of the Wray and Nephewsponsored Overproof White Rum Western Jamaica Domino Association Division One curtain-raiser, also featured two Trelawny teams, the Kinloss-based Stars International which pulled off a major upset over the Carey Park-based Fighter Jets.
At half-time, Stars International led the overwhelming favourites by 19.
According to president of the Western Jamaica Domino Association Walford “Andrade” Morgraidge, the winners of both competitions will lock horns in the Champion of Champions match on October 24 at the Rainbow Club in Duncans, Trelawny.
The four Trelawny teams earned their semi-final berths in games played last week at Club Cali. Assassin defeated Montego Bay team Uptown; while Untouchables, from the community of Deeside, upstaged Strike Force, another Montego Bay team.
Stars International defeated Tropical Rhythm from Hopewell in Hanover; and Fighter Jet defeated Dynasty of Montego Bay.
Seventeen teams from Trelawny, Hanover, Westmoreland and St James participated in the competitions.
Third-place finishers in the premier league were Uptown’ while Strike Force ended in fourth.
In the division one league, Tropical Rhythms placed third and Dynasty, fourth.
Morgraidge says presentation of prizes and trophies will be on October 26 at the Western Domino Association’s headquarters at 19 Barnett Street at 8:00 pm.
