Four levels of Thriller
“The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of 40,000 years. And grizzly ghouls from every tomb, are closing in to seal your doom.”
ON the eve Halloween, the New Quad’s annual Halloween party was a ghastly sight! Witches and wizards, and zombies alike, all came out to play for the night!
Thriller, this year’s ghoulish extravaganza had patrons out in the hundreds, in a line that stretched from The Quad to the corner of Trinidad Terrace and St Lucia Ave. Though the line outside was long and frightful enough to scare any passersby, there was still some breathing room inside the club at midnight.
A coffin complete with skeleton bride greeted patrons as they entered the club, while quad attendants dressed as red devils gave out the free drinks promised on entry.
With cobwebs and ghosts hanging from the ceiling, and a ‘Witches Brew’ piano, the light music playing did not mimic the frightful environment, but instead gave the patrons of the living dead a chance to frolic before the real fun began.
The Oxygen Night Club, was a bit more packed, but still had breathing room until about 2:00 am. Moving to the music of DJ Venom and DJ Danny of Coppershot, patrons were first treated to some 90’s music to get the vibe going. The club hits got more recent as the crowd grew and people started dancing and ‘getting on bad’ with some of their favourite songs.
Oxygen was also the level with the most unusual costumes, from doctors, nurses, pirates, brides, witch doctors and footballers, both living and undead, to monks, Greek gods and goddesses, Egyptian gods and the Taliban. There was even a reverend, a Pope and a few nuns and a Carnival posse thrown into the mix.
DJ Richie Venom held down the Voodoo Lounge with the appropriate bump and grind music that had patrons cheering in delight. Before long, the Voodoo lounge was also filled with more of the undead, as they migrated from the packed Oxygen.
Thriller was the only place to be this Saturday night, just ask the living and the undead. When TEENage left at 4:00 am, the Quad was still packed with patrons having the time of their after lives.
“And though you fight to stay alive, Your body starts to shiver. For no mere mortal can resist, The evil of the thriller.”
