Alliance Buccaneers golf tournament tees off today
The Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament tees off today at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine at 7:00 am.
The two-day golf tournament will see over 140 golfers, including two-time defending champion Fabian Campbell vying for top honours.
The tournament features two different competitions running concurrently. One will be a two-day — 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier, while the other, to be played tomorrow only, will be a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fundraiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.
The format of play features: Today and Sunday — Medal Play HCP 1-12, Modified Stableford HCP 13-24, Men, Seniors, Super Seniors and Ladies and Juniors, while tomorrow it will be Modified Stableford HCP 10-12, 13-24, 25-36, Men and Ladies.
Some of the 140 golfers who will be on the course are: Super Seniors — Dennis Atkinson, Freddie Sutherland, Gordon Hutchinson (former president of the JGA), Hamar Dayes and Maurice Foster; Seniors — Wayne Chai Chong (president of JGA), Robert Chin, John Smith (former Caribbean number one), Jeffrey Dujon and Peter Chin; Men — Fabian Campbell (defending champion), Jonathan Newnham, Xavier Rose, Rory Jardine, Paul Thompson, Radcliffe Knibbs and Dr Tommy Lee; Ladies — Jodi Munn Barrow, Leiza Munn Blakely and Maggie Lyn.
The tournament will also feature the Juniors — a category that was introduced last year. They will compete for a new trophy in honour of Jamaica’s best junior female golfer, Vitoria Marley, who died earlier this year.
The awards presentation ceremony will be held next Monday at Constant Spring Golf Club in Kingston beginning at 7:00 pm.
