CPR mourns the passing of Sonia Pottinger
Tributes and messages of condolence continue to come in for veteran music producer Sonia Pottinger.
In this message, The directors and members of the Coalition to Preserve Reggae Music (CPR) note that the are saddened to learn of the passing of Sonia Pottinger and have offered their condolences to her family and friends.
CPR notes that Pottinger’s monumental efforts made a significant contribution to the development and growth of Jamaica’s music industry and CPR joins the music fraternity in mourning her loss.
“This loss underscores the passing of an era and the urgent need to take steps to safeguard the legacy of this period in our history. We look forward to working with others of like mind to preserve this legacy and ensure a fitting memorial for the work and contribution of Pottinger,” CPR noted in a release.
Meanwhile, in her tribute culture minister Olivia ‘Babsy Grange Miss Grange recognised Pottinger for her courage in challenging the order in the male-dominated Jamaican music business, and for her professionalism and commitment to good tastes which helped her to make a huge success of her venture.
“She not only produced some of Jamaica’s best artistes and greatest hits, but she also brought a level of professionalism to the business through the standards she set for music coming out on her label, as well as in terms of her relationship with the artistes she produced,” Miss Grange said.
She further stated that Pottinger blazed a trail through the body of local music which opened up the doors for female artistes and won recognition for women as producers and CEOs in the industry.
