Jordan’s team pips Iverson in Eurocup League
DESPITE limited playing time as a rookie and getting into foul trouble, Jamaican seven-foot centre Jerome Jordan jazzed up the match for the time he was on court for his Serbian team Hemofarm, which opened their Eurocup campaign Tuesday night, beating Allen Iverson-led Besiktas Istanbul, 94-91.
The Turkish team, playing at home, led for most the match and threw away a 17-point advantage with just seven minutes remaining in the last quarter.
But Hemofarm scored five consecutive three-pointers in the last two minutes of the match to win their opening Group B Eurocup match.
The 24-year-old Jordan, who usually plays between 10 to 15 minutes per match, was on court for five minutes 34 seconds, scoring two of two field goals and three of five free throws to end with seven points. He committed four personal fouls, however, and received three.
Besiktas led 24-14, 44-35, and 69-63 in the first three quarters, and at one point were 82-65 early in the last quarter before Hemofarm rallied.
Iverson, a former outstanding NBA player who earned as much as US$20 million a season, scored 15 points in the game. Milan Macvan topscored for Hemofarm with 17 points.
Jordan, who scored a season-high 16 points on October 1 in an Euroleague qualifying match against German team Alba Berlin after playing for 15 minutes, will next play on Saturday in the Adriatic League where Hemofarm are in second place after winning five of seven matches.
One of the top teams in Europe, Hemofarm are hoping to improve on their 2003/2004 quarter-final place in the Eurocup. The Serbian team won the Adriatic League in 2004/2005 season.
Jordan has so far scored 40 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the 76 minutes he has played in the Adriatic League. He is 76 per cent from the field and 66.7 per cent from the line.
