St Catherine KO kicks off with double-header
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — A double-header at the Spanish Town Prison Oval will highlight today’s opening of the St Catherine Co-operative Credit Union/LIME Knockout football competition.
In the curtain-raiser at 3:00 pm, Division One outfit Fraziers Whip will attempt a giant-killing act when they tackle Major League contenders Dunbeholden FC, while Super League hot shots Meadows FC and Travellers FC will meet in the feature game at 5:00.
Some 30 teams, drawn from five different leagues, will take part in this season’s competition with the winner pocketing $150,000.
Twenty-eight of those teams will compete against each other on a home-and-away basis in the first-round, with the winners on aggregate advancing to the second round.
Defending champions Portmore United and last year’s beaten finalists Naggo Head FC were both given first-round byes and will enter the competition at the next phase.
In a reschedule LIME Division One game on Tuesday, Racing United and Pen Acres drew 1-1.
