Priceless Beauty hunts consecutive win at Caymanas Park
Canadian-import four-year-old Priceless Beauty looks certain to rattle up her second consecutive win on local soil in the $715,000 United Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.
Also returning to bring its particular and peculiar end of programme excitement to the nine-race card is the $462,000 Alex’s Imports “Dig Out Handicap” Race #400 which has attracted the largest field of 14 for the maiden condition race for native-bred three-year-olds, who have not earned $90,000 since May 20.
Trained by Morris Powell, Houston Stables’ four-year-old filly Priceless Beauty in the principal feature appears to be a standout amongst five younger local rivals and a four-year-old import in the Restricted Stakes event for imported three-year-olds upward (NW3) and native-bred three-year-olds over 1,820 metres.
Not many Canadian-bred horses have done well in Jamaica in recent times, but this one looks to be a very good sort and should perform likewise in this not too tough seven-horse field of five fillies braced with a colt and a gelding.
Champion and leading reinsman Omar Walker gets the call on Priceless Beauty who packs 55.0kg for an average of 5.0kg more than her rivals.
Winless in her first two local starts, the dark bay/brown filly by Kafwain out of Pretoria (Great Gladiator) is coming off of a 6 1/4 lengths maiden win over 1,600 metres to open her win account on last and the time posted was an impressive 1:37.4 minutes after being prominent in the field of 10.
Even better prepared and well suited to the distance by breeding, the daughter of Kafwain could be on an afternoon stroll for her second win on the trot.
As can be expected, her sternest challenge should come from recent winner over the distance by the Spencer Chung-conditioned Merit’s Brite Lite. In her last run, the chestnut daughter of Region Of Merit out of Touch The Light (Twilight Agenda), bred and owned by Frederick Foote & Kent showed much improvement, and having trained well enough for a repeat performance coming in at the same weight as on her last victory (50.0kg) for Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas, could once again go all the way.
However, the unknown quantity in the small field is the fellow import of Priceless Beauty, Alexa’s Song also a chestnut four-year-old filly and also owned by Houston Stables, but trained by Harry Jaghai.
Not the classy equal of Priceless Beauty, but one who is taking her own sweet time putting her act together, Alexa’s Song could be a potent factor when least expected to be. By Rock N Roll out of Belmont Babe (Tale Of The Cat), Alexa’s Song has run a number of races in the grade with little success to date.
However, one of her best performances was when stretched out to 1,600 metres which gave the idea that she will like it long in time. And having worked fairly well with such a distance in mind, the chestnut daughter of Rock N Roll could come into her own with a big performance to keep her connections happy seeing that she is now given a more positive equipment change of tongue tie with Lasix. The tongue tie has replaced the figure eight and visor.
Pat N Gold with Peter Bryan and Prince Of Arabia ridden by Dane Nelson, who both can chuck it late, can also be seen to good advantage over the distance that could force the event to end in a nailbiting finish.
