Team player, leader
MICHELLE Williams-Anderson is the woman with the responsibility to boost the sales of Digicel’s 4G Broadband, the latest product to be rolled out by the telecommunications company.
“As the head of sales for Digicel’s 4G Broadband — which we recently launched with 60 per cent population coverage across Jamaica — I have responsibility for optimising sales across our various channels, (including) business sales, direct sales, telesales, and retail locations,” she told Career & Education. “This role also allows me to have significant input in the overall improvement of our processes to ensure that we continue to deliver the best customer experience to all our Digicel 4G Broadband customers across Jamaica.”
And in performing her duties, Williams-Anderson has impressed her bosses; she’s been named one of the company’s top performers for 2010.
“It’s always an honour knowing that your hard work is recognised and valued by your organisation. It also motivates you to continue along the current path and achieve even greater things,” said the married mother of a 17-month-old boy, noting her pleasure at the distinction.
Williams-Anderson, a St Andrew High school past student, holds a bachelor’s degree in management science and accounting from the University of the West Indies and a master’s in business administration from Nova Southeastern University.
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old’s love for her work is obvious.
“Digicel has very high expectations of its employees and constantly challenges you to overachieve on your last overachievement. Time and time again, I get a great sense of pride and accomplishment when I look back at all the milestone accomplishments of Digicel since its entry into Jamaica, knowing that I am involved in all of them,” said the woman, who has served the firm for 10 years.
As to whether she considers herself a top performer, the answer is a resounding yes.
“Yes, I do (consider myself a top performer) — although in Digicel we all are top performers, and that has been one of the main ingredients of our continued success in the market over the years,” Williams-Anderson said.
Her supervisor, Alexander Boothroyd, Digicel group chief executive officer for WiMax, said there is no questioning her consistently high level of performance over the years, and this year in particular.
“Michelle Williams-Anderson joined Digicel in August 2000 as a dealer development executive and in less than two years was promoted to dealer channel operations manager. She was seconded to the Digicel 4G Broadband rollout in the role of consumer sales manager and, as a result of her stellar performance, was recently appointed head of sales for Digicel 4G Broadband. This is a clear indication that Michelle has displayed consistently high performance throughout the years and easily falls in the category of a high-performing employee,” he said.
“Michelle’s performance records over the years have been excellent and this is a true testament to her commitment, high-quality output and ability to create positive work synergies with her work colleagues. Combined, this has further enabled her to command the respect of her team and her peers alike. High performance is one thing, but high performance and strong personal relationships make leaders great,” Boothroyd added.
